Music Helps Soothe My Inner Child

I'm not one to claim that any one particular thing can heal you in one fell swoop. I happen to think that healing is a long process full of twists and turns that are not necessarily linear or sensical. Having said that, there have been some tools in my healing toolbox that have been profound in their effects.

One such tool for me has been music.

There have been certain songs that have come along on my healing journey that have helped me process and soothe in a way that I think no other medium could. There's just something about the way a good song can reach the depths of my pain and turn it into golden comfort, validation, and awareness.

One of the most deeply meaningful songs for me recently has been Matilda, by Harry Styles.

It speaks to the complicated sadness and grief of not only my childhood, but also to the many heartbreaking social interactions and losses I've experienced as an adult working through medical and religious trauma. It has reminded me that I get to create a life and support system with people who have my back.

Music just has a way with me and will forever be in my healing toolbox.

Here's to healing and hope!

We got this!

Love,

Julia
