I often think about what I would say to people if they ever asked me what it's like to live with Complex PTSD. (I have to imagine what I would say to them because nobody has ever actually asked me.)
But, if anyone ever did, I would say that it's like living life as an internal burn victim.
You feel like your insides are so painful, raw, and impossibly sensitive that you have no other choice but to take time out to tend to your wounds.
When the people that were supposed to help you and care for you are the very ones who neglected, abandoned, manipulated, gaslit, coerced, and lied to you,
it burns you.
Deeply.
And nobody can see the ashes or blistered flesh
because the burns are inside of you.
That is why I am and will always believe that the absolute best thing we can do as C-PTSD survivors is to ADVOCATE for and EDUCATE ourselves and our own personal healing and wellbeing.
Nobody can see on the outside what has happened to us on the inside, so it is up to us to do the work to try to understand
WHAT HAS HAPPENED
and
HOW TO HEAL.
And I'm not talking about how to heal according to the latest guru, new age influencer, or religious or spiritual evangelist.
I'm talking about
how to heal
from a professional lens
and in ways that are
verified as effective.
Because why would you ever go to a hairdresser to bandage up a third degree burn?
You just wouldn't.
Here's to healing and hope!
We got this!
Love,
Julia
